Upto 1000 words of weird fears. We're not just looking for horror or suspense. Weave your strange scares into a love story, historical fiction, magical realism, crime...anything but cannibalism and hardcore porn... there are special places for you guys to go (away, basically).
Use your unique scare in an unusual way - make it gothic, make it funny, make us weep for your MC. We'll be honest; sci-fi and high fantasy are not our favourites, but maybe an alien who's afraid of rednecks (it's always them gets taken by aliens, isn't it?) or a hero's quest where the fairy is scared of flying and the dwarf is afraid of small spaces and hammers might appeal.
All the usual good story-making rules apply. Characters that leap off the page, a unique voice, vivid description, sensory detail and an actual, you know, story.
We're open until the end of September for this call, or until we reach 99 submissions. BUT we'll immediately open for unthemed submissions where anything goes as soon as that happens, so there's no one missing any boats around here.
