Blow the Candles Out, My Dear

by Jennifer Weigel

This image is a digital collage featuring a central image from my Reversals series exploring the disconcerting nature of images that are too symmetrical, as seen in Mark Mothersbaugh’s Beautiful Mutants series.  The focus is on a still from a performance piece that I did for my 10-year art anniversary wherein, dressed in my clown regalia, I celebrated with a small cake which I consumed with my bare hands and filmed, later running the video in fast forward to add to the disconcerting nature of the film.  Ancillary images are based upon another cake I decorated as well as a drawing that I had done of a hamsa, using only the detail of the eye.
