La Canicule
by Rim Slaoui
aka HACEL
Distorted and dismembered body parts, agonizingly melting in colours of delirium as they seek an escape from the layers. Heavy sweat dripping like icing down a back, lodged in every crevice. The heat and humidity caked onto the skin like a coat you can’t take off. La Canicule explores the sensory experience of a sweltering summer day.

Rim Slaoui (aka HACEL)
Rim Slaoui (aka HACEL) is a multidisciplinary artist who loves experimenting with different techniques to illustrate — in the words of Mark Rothko — 'basic human emotions'. Her art practice —mainly painting/drawing and photography— seeks to abstract reality and reduce captured moments to a liminal space for the psyche. They are an ode to the solitary mind's obsessive internal monologues, at once quiet and dynamic.
She obtained a B.F.A. at the University of Ottawa (Canada), where she specialized in Painting / Drawing. She currently resides in Toronto, Canada.
